XANTHELASMA EXCISION

Xanthelasma is a condition that results from the accumulation of cholesterol and fats beneath the skin. These deposits can form almost anywhere on the body, but most commonly occur on the eyelids.

Patients often note that the appearance of these bright yellow bumps around their eyes is a distraction and an aesthetic concern.

About half of patients with this condition may also have elevated cholesterol or triglycerides (fats) in the bloodstream. It is important to have investigations, as high blood fats may increase the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Once these investigations are completed, attention to treating the appearance of the skin can be addressed.

Unfortunately, even if blood cholesterol or fat levels are elevated, treatment with diet and medication does not usually resolve the appearance of xanthelasma. Surgical treatment, however, can be a great option.

If you find xanthelasma spots to be unsightly, treatment is possible!  There are multiple modalities that can be utilized to help eliminate them.   At Park Dermatology, we would be pleased to consult with you to find the appropriate option for you.
