MORPHEUS8: STRETCH MARKS

Stretch marks (or striae) are often the disappointing result of excessive strain across the skin. Initiating factors may including pregnancy, sudden weight gain, rapid growth in height as well as corticosteroid medications.

Some individuals appear to be more likely to develop these marks. In general, females are more commonly affected. Having a family member who had stretch marks may also increase the risk. People with certain genetic conditions, such as Cushing or Marfan syndrome, are more likely to acquire these marks over time as well.

Total elimination of stretch marks continues to be challenging. That being said, innovative new therapeutic options are now available that can make a significant impact in muting the appearance of these marks.

Early in the development of stretch marks, they often look more red (striae rubrae) in appearance. At this stage, treatment with Excel V+ laser is an effective treatment to help eliminate the blood vessels beneath these marks that project this red discoloration.

Morpheus8 (radiofrequency microneedling) is another valuable therapy that helps to blend away the appearance of stretch marks. This energy-based treatment can simultaneously tighten and firm the involved the skin.

In addition to Excel V+ and Morpheus8, there are several other technologies that may be utilized effectively to improve strech marks including Sciton Profactional (fractional ErYAG laser) and PicoWay Resolve (photoacoustic picolaser). Complimenting energy-based therapies with medical-grade topical treatments (eg. silicone gels, retinoids and vitamin C serums) are also important considerations to optimize the results.
